With its small town appeal and easy access to more modern day amenities, it’s easy to see why Middleton is one of the fastest growing communities in Idaho. As of 2013, it is home to 6,003 residents which is nearly twice as many as there were in the year 2000. It has multiple brand new subdivisions mingled throughout the city, updated shopping centers and convenience stores, all while preserving the city’s rich history.
Middleton was named after being the middle point between Boise and a well known ferry on the Snake River. The original site of the city was flooded in 1872 which completely isolated the city on an island. It was then forced to move, and thus its current location along the Boise River was found. It is the oldest settlement in Canyon County.
Being right next to the Boise River offers wonderful outdoor opportunities for the residents of Middleton. Swimming, fishing, mild boating can be done only minutes from downtown. There is a greenbelt that runs alongside the river, connecting Middleton to Star and Caldwell. There are also 6 developed parks in the city for public use.
There are many fun events that happen in Middleton every year, including a huge Christmas Celebration and a Fall Craft Bazaar. Perhaps its most well known event is its all-out Fourth of July celebration, though. This includes a firemen’s breakfast, car show and the state’s wettest Fourth of July parade. Parade go-ers have been known to come clothed only in swimsuits in expectation of being drenched by the passing fire trucks.
Middleton has much to offer the residents and neighboring communities. Young and old will find something to enjoy in this beautiful, small town. Come see for yourself.
