The city of Kuna, Idaho originally was a central stopping point for the Union Pacific Railroad, providing easy access to the Boise area. It has grown tremendously since then, and now it is home to more than 16,000 residents. The city’s boundaries are only four miles from the boundaries of the capital city, Boise, and access to the interstate is only twenty minutes away.
Kuna is known to have some of the best schools in the area. Currently, there are 10 public schools serving the city, including 7 elementary schools, 1 middle school and two high schools. The elementary student to teacher average is one of the lowest in the area, with around 15 students per class.
There are plenty of fun things to do around Kuna. Indian Creek, a small seasonal creek, is one of the few small floatable waterways in the area. It’s a popular place to swim and play during the hot summer days because it runs right through town. Just a few miles south of town, are the Kuna Caves. The Kuna Caves are a set of underground lava tubes, about 50 feet below ground and close to a full mile in length.
Two more great learning centers are close by as well. Swan Falls Dam is approximately 10 miles south of Kuna. With a public picnic area and multiple hiking trails nearby, it is a wonderful place to spend the day. Multiple campsites await your arrival along the Snake River. These rustic campsites are without modern day novelties, but are overwhelmed with incredible beauty because they are in the middle of the Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area (NCA). With help from a guidebook and a good pair of binoculars, you can find 24 different types of nesting and migrating raptors including falcons, eagles, hawks, and owls. They are abundant here year round. Kuna often holds a festival to celebrate their connection to the conservation area.
The city of Kuna is close knit and family oriented. It responds to family needs within the community, and has a great heart for community service. It protects its history by educating its residents, all while preparing for the future. Its active community makes it a wonderful and safe place to raise a family.
